About Yeast Culture

Yeast Culture creates and produces documentaries, video installations, live VJing, projection mapping, visuals and music videos. We work across art forms and disciplines blending film, live performance, animation, illustration and sound design.

An award winning company with over a decade of experience, we find that the majority of our work is generated through personal recommendations. Bespoke production teams are put together for each new project from a network that includes directors, producers, video designers, editors and animators through to live event managers, set designers, show callers and riggers. We aim to make extraordinary and distinctive work with every fresh adventure we take on.

Examples of recent commissions and collaborations include projects with Akram Khan, Nitin Sawhney, Ben Orki, Philharmonia Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, Cirque du Soleil, Brian Eno, Esa Pekka Solomen, Michael Tilson Thomas, Matthew Herbert, Ludovico Einaudi, George Fenton, Madness, British Council, BBC and Channel 4.

"Powerful visuals are projected behind the band with a message that is felt rather than thought. No wonder radio can't handle it." Sydney Morning Herald, Nitin Sawhney Prophesy Tour

We make documentaries that explore the very essence of who we are today. Much of our work is inspired by the universal human emotions and questions that are central to daily life. Laughter, love, ethnicity, nudity, sleep, consumerism, globalisation, protest, and partying are all connected themes of recent work.

Previous documentaries include

The Battle for Prague (BBC2), Naked Protest (Channel 4), Burning Man – Community or Chaos? (Channel 4), King of Laughter (Channel 4), Big Chill in Cairo (Channel 4) and Music Matbakh (British Council).

We have also produced short films for Britdoc, British Council, PRS for Music Foundation, V2 and the National Youth Theatre.

"Ambitious, provocative and searching, Yeast’s film is a welcome and timely search for values and worth in the desert of the corporate sprawl." The Guardian, Global Protest

Workshops and Creative Learning

We believe that video can be a powerful and simple tool for examining the world around us. We are regularly asked to produce and deliver creative filmmaking, animation and live VJing workshops for a wide range of people, from primary school children through to people in later life. Examples of previous projects include seminars for Channel 4 Talent, group sessions with BBC Education and summer workshops with the British Council and in the Serpentine Pavilion. We work across the UK and internationally, with workshops delivered in Australia, Abu Dhabi, Bulgaria, China and France. Our experience in making documentaries and of working with high profile artists in live performance is a useful springboard to inspire groups to start to communicate their own ideas through film.
